The Animal Defense League of Washington County, Inc. (ADL) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible. ADL’s mission is the prevention of cruelty to all animals, the relief of suffering among animals, and the extension of humane education.
Voice of the Voiceless
A generous bequest has provided the Animal Defense League of Washington County with money to help with the cost of spay/neuter for animals of Washington County, VA and the surrounding area. Trap Neuter Release (TNR) - Support the Petition
ADL supports and practices TNR. Simply put, community cats are humanely trapped and taken to the local clinic or veterinarian to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated. After their recovery, the cats are returned to their 'colony' or outdoor home. Cats and kittens that are friendly and socialized to people may have the opportunity to be adopted into forever homes. The importance of TNR is that it stops the breeding cycle of cats and therefore improves their lives and ultimately prevents births and the over population in our shelters.
There is currently a bill in the 2021 General Assembly to clarify that everyone, including public shelters, can engage in TNR (trap neuter and return). Here is a link to the petition to support the bill: Petition to support the bill and you can read about the bill at: Read about the bill.
Please remember that your support is always needed. Our effort to reduce the problem of pet overpopulation is based on providing financial assistance for spaying and neutering as many cats and dogs as possible. Even in this pandemic crisis, your generous support allowed us to provide assistance to more than 2,000 animals in Washington County and the surrounding area during 2020.
